More About Mold

There is currently legislation in place for each state to adopt its own guidelines and certifications for abatement companies. However we are several years away from a final outcome. Until that time, we must rely on printed guidelines provided by the Environmental Protection Agency and New York City Guidelines for mold (the 2000 revised edition). These are the only guidelines available for mold remediation; these guidelines are currently used by abatement companies and referenced by attorneys dealing with mold related issues.

Unfortunately for everyone concerned, so called mold experts are popping up everywhere, making it hard to differentiate between who is honest and who isn’t. We believe our track record speaks volumes about our philosophy and the way we do business. We have been around for over a decade and in order to stay for another ten years and beyond we must continue to be as honest and forthright as possible.

Odor Masters has established a program designed to be pro-active in regard to mold related situations. We believe that we have saved our customers millions of dollars by troubleshooting situations that could, if not handled correctly, become volatile.Just my opinion…Having been in this business for almost 17 years, we have seen and been involved in a wide range of bacteria related situations.

At this point in time due to several widely publicized mold related cases, most residents around the United States seem to be in a tizzy in regard to mold related issues. It’s not the homeowner’s fault! Unfortunately most residents base their assumptions on what they see in the media (usually the worst case scenario).

There is no question that mold is inherently bad in large quantities and in some circumstances may require special handling during the removal process. However, let’s try and keep things in perspective and avoid getting taken to the cleaners. Moving the family into a tent in the front yard is rarely one of my recommendations!

Based on the KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID or KISS theory, mold remediation can be interpreted as follows: “REMOVE WHAT YOU CAN AND SEAL WHAT CAN’T BE REMOVED, CONTAIN IF NECESSARY! THAT’S IT.”

This is of course, “just my opinion” based on almost 17 years in the industry. Should you wish to form your own opinions, I invite you to check out our links page and visit the EPA and New York City Health Department web sites.

Thank you again for your interest in Odor Masters.
